What is a mentalist?

A mentalist is a very specialized type of illusionist, very different from the classical magician. A magician engages an audiences eyes through his illusions. For example, when a magician cuts a woman in half, no one really believes that the woman is in any real danger. A magic show engages the eyes...a mentalist directly challenges the mind through his illusions, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

Mentalism is an ancient performing art in which its practitioners, known as mentalists, use mental acuity, principles of stage magic, hypnosis and/or suggestion to present the illusion of mind reading, psychokinesis, precognition, clairvoyance or mind control. - Wikipedia
